von Hass und Sorgen

„Zhu Dunru: Old Age

I am happy with my old age:
For I have seen life thoroughly,
Become familiar with all truths,
Penetrated the hidden things oft he world;
Obliterated altogether the seas of regret and
mountains of distress;
Free from the charms of flowers,
And the spell of wine,
Always sober.
When I have eaten, I go to bed;
When I awake, I play my part when my turn comes.

Do not talk of the days gone by and time to come;
In my breast
There are no such things.
I have no mind to become an Immortal,
to worship Buddha,
Nor to imitate the restless Confucius.
I am unwilling to argue with you,
Laugh as they will –
So, be it so.
My part performed,
I leave my costume to the silly players.“
